Pork and Mint Keftas

Ingredients

500 g | 1.1 lb | Olymel ground pork |
2 | 2 | shallots, finely chopped |
2 | 2 | cloves garlic, finely chopped |
80 ml | 1/3 cup | chopped mint leaves |
15 ml | 1 tbsp | bread crumbs |
5 ml | 1 tsp | cumin |
5 ml | 1 tsp | oregano |
Salt and pepper to taste | ||
4 | 4 | large pita breads |
60 ml | 1/4 cup | mint leaves |
1 | 1 | tomato, sliced |
0.25 | 1/4 | small red onion, sliced |
125 ml | 1/2 cup | plain yogurt |
15 ml | 1 tbsp | harissa or other hot sauce |
1 | 1 | Juice and zest of lime |
Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste |
Preparation
Yogurt sauce
- In a bowl, combine all ingredients and refrigerate. Season.
Keftas
- In a bowl, combine all ingredients. Form elongated patties and insert a bamboo skewer previously soaked in water into each. Flatten meat slightly with your hands.
- On a pan or on the BBQ, cook keftas over medium-high heat 4 to 6 minutes per side or until meat is well done.
- Serve keftas on toasted pita bread with mint leaves, tomato slices, onion slices and yogurt sauce.
- If you prefer you can replace yogurt sauce with tzatziki sauce.
